Darren Aronofsky is said to be shopping a script for Noah, a re-telling of the story of Noah’s Ark.

Aronofsky has written the script, with re-writes by John Logan, the scribe behind the likes of The Aviator and Gladiator.

New Regency is said to be co-financing the film, which is looking for a $130 million budget. The likes of Paramount, Fox and Summit are vying to co-finance the other half.

Since dropping out of The Wolverine, Aronofsky is looking to make his next film and with Black Swan grossing $315 million worldwide, he has no shortage of backers.

Deadline says that the story is going to be a “big fantasy epic" which sounds more like his third film, The Fountain, than any other he has created.

Let's hope it's better than Evan Almighty...

Curioso, non c'è che dire.

E' stato ufficialmente acquistato dalla Paramount: http://screenrant.com/paramount-darren-aro...h-sandy-134544/

CITAZIONE
We’ve known for months now that Darren Aronofsky was hoping to make the expensive Biblical retelling Noah his next directorial effort – since he passed on helming The Wolverine, earlier this year – and it looks like the project is finally (officially) ready to continue moving forward.

Paramount and New Regency have finalized a deal that will see them co-finance Aronofsky’s Noah: a cinematic version of the Noah’s Ark story that (according to earlier estimates) is being budgeted as a $130 million venture.

Deadline confirmed the deal, which has been expected to (eventually) go through since late June 2011. Longtime Aronofsky collaborator Scott Franklin – who even produced the filmmaker’s ultra low-budget directorial debut, Pi – will co-produce Noah with the Black Swan helmer.
Multiple Oscar-nominated scriber John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai) has been hired on to rework the previous draft of the Noah script penned by Aronofsky and Ari Handel (The Fountain). The latter writing duo’s screenplay was presumably the basis for the upcoming Noah comic book, which Aronofsky worked on with illustrator Nico Henrichon.

Aronofsky has previously described Noah as being a more loyal adaptation of the original Biblical story – which, as the filmmaker has rightly pointed out, is often graphic in nature and contains a good deal of adults-only material that has not been included in many a previous re-interpretation. However, the filmmaker is reportedly designing the Noah movie as more of a true “epic” – and not an intimate character drama that seeks to explore the depths of a man commanded by God to preserve the Earth’s non-human animals during an apocalyptic flood.

Here is what Aronofsky told IFC about Noah, this past summer:

“I don’t think [the tale of Noah is] a very religious story. I think it’s a great fable that’s part of so many different religions and spiritual practices. I just think it’s a great story that’s never been on film… I want to make a big [Roland Emmerich-style] event film, and I think ['Noah'] can be that.”

Those who cringe at the mere mention of Emmerich’s name ought to bear in mind that Aronofsky was simply likening the scale of Noah to one of the 2012 filmmaker’s projects. The amount of attention paid to decent storytelling and character development in Aronofsky’s Biblical adaptation – that’s another matter…

While it’s known that Christian Bale has been eying Noah (among other projects) as the potential followup to The Dark Knight Rises, his involvement is far from a given. Paramount and New Regency are hoping to start production on Noah by Spring 2012, possibly with a Summer 2013 release date in mind – assuming the project really is being fashioned as more an effects-heavy “event” film. So there’s still plenty of time for Bale (or another respectable actor) to sign on for the flick.

We will continue to keep you posted on the status of Noah, in the meantime.

Christian Bale has passed on Darren Aronofsky's "Noah," and the filmmaker is now targeting Michael Fassbender for the title role in Paramount and New Regency's biblical epic.
While Fassbender has not yet received an official offer, sources tell Variety that he has discussed the part with Aronofsky. Fassbender finds himself available now that WB's "Londongrad" has stalled following the departure of helmer Rupert Wyatt, whom Fassbender was keen to work with.

Aronofsky and Ari Handel wrote the original script, which was subsequently rewritten by "Gladiator" scribe John Logan. Aronofsky is producing with Scott Franklin ("Black Swan").

Paramount is high on the faith-based project due to its global appeal, and production is expected to start in the spring.

Fassbender, repped by CAA and Troika, is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood thanks to his well-received turns in four films this year -- "Jane Eyre," "X-Men: First Class," "A Dangerous Method" and "Shame," the NC-17 drama for which he's garnering awards attention. However, unlike most stars, the picky Fassbender doesn't attach himself to many projects. He has supporting roles in Steven Soderbergh's "Haywire" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" on the horizon, but the only other project he has committed to is "Twelve Years a Slave," which will reunite Fassbender with his "Hunger" and "Shame" helmer Steve McQueen.

Bale just wrapped Christopher Nolan's last Batman pic "The Dark Knight Rises" and is set to star in a pair of Terrence Malick films, "Lawless" and "Knight of Cups."

Aronofsky e Fassbender insieme? Decisamente sì!

Nuove notizie: http://thefilmstage.com/news/word-of-a-rel...s-noah-come-in/

CITAZIONE
The lack of information regarding Darren Aronofsky‘s new film Noah has allowed speculation surrounding the film to run pretty much unchecked. For a while it was assumed that Christian Bale would be the lead. However, after word came that he would be unable to find the time given his commitments to Terrence Malick, attention turned to Michael Fassbender as a likely replacement. Fassbender has refused to comment definitively on this matter, but, luckily, we now have new information from the Oscar Poker podcast (via ThePlaylist) to sate our thirst for news and speculation.
On the podcast, Jeff Wells said that frequent Aronofsky contributor Matthew Libatique dropped some promising and intriguing bits of information regarding the Biblical production. First and foremost, he says that the film will begin shooting in New York and Iceland in July, with an eye toward a Fall 2013 release. (This makes sense, as it should be assumed that the studio will be hoping to gain some award consideration off of this film.) Libatique is also said to have discussed the script with Aronofsky, and, according to Wells, said that “it’s really a good script. They’re really doing the story of Noah, a very unlikely subject you might think for a cutting edge fellow like Darren Aronofsky, but that’s what they’re doing.”
Most intriguing of all, though, is the news that there will be a human antagonist, a kind of faithless doubter who will serve as Noah’s counterpoint in the tale. “And there’s a big villain part,” Wells said. “Someone who’s saying ‘Listen, don’t listen to him. We’re fine! We don’t need to build any ark. Don’t be so alarmist! Don’t be so fundamentalist.’” That’s an interesting concept, as it would seem to be an affirmation of a very heavy religious bent for the film, and a basic condemnation of an agnostic feeling that is very much prevalent in popular culture today. And if anyone can pull off such a delicate act of religious defense, I think Aronofsky would be the guy to do it. His spiritual inclinations have already been made clear by The Fountain and Pi, and seeing him back in that territory could be invigorating.
Still no official plot synopsis or release date, so, for now, hearsay is all we have to go on. At least news like this makes it easy to start chalking Noah up as a film to look out for.
Does this third-hand news make you more or less excited for this film, or are you waiting for some solid updates to really nail down an opinion?

CITAZIONE
AFTER starring in Ridley Scott's epic Gladiator and oddly off-key Robin Hood, Russell Crowe is going further back in time to play Noah - and we now have a first look at him in character.

A new picture shows Crowe gazing into the distance, perhaps as baffled by what 'gopher wood' actually is as the rest of the us. The Biblical reference to that unknown type of wood, used to construct the boat, has been the subject of discussion among scholars for centuries.

The new image follows recent pictures tweeted by director Darren Aronofsky that showed the ark under construction. All are included here.

While the shot of Crowe as Noah is nothing out of the ordinary, the film is shaping up to be much more than you might expect. After all, we have only recently seen an impressively-depicted deluge (as well as several arks, though of a modern variety) in Roland Emmerich's 2012.

Aronofsky will aim to differentiate his disaster movie by adding Watchers, 11ft tall fallen angels with six arms and no wings, according to a script review on Hitfix. These may be the same beings as the Nephilim about which Aronofsky has been tweeting.

He has also been tweeting about a character called Og who, in the Bible, is last of the Rephaim, a race of giants. Jewish folklore says Og was alive at the time of Noah, travelling in the ark either in a special compartment or on the roof, and later died in battle with the Israelites.

The director set out his vision in a graphic novel, which had the following synopsis that may offer clues to the film adaptation.

His name is Noah. Far from the stereotype of the patriarch that one appends the character of the Bible, he looked like a warrior. He looks like a Mad Max out of the depths of time.

In the world of Noah, pity has no place. He lives with his wife and three children in a land barren and hostile, in the grip of severe drought. A world marked by violence and barbarism, delivered to the savagery of the clans that draw their reason to survive from war and cruelty.

But Noah is like no other. This is a fighter and also a healer. He is subject to visions which announce the imminent end of the Earth, swallowed by the waves of an endless deluge. Noah must notify his followers. If man is to survive, he must end the suffering inflicted on the planet and "treat the world with mercy." However, no one is listening.

The tyrant Akkad, who Noah went to visit in the city of Bal-llim, chased him and sentenced him to flee. After consulting with his grandfather Methuselah, Noah decided to rally to his cause the terrible Giants and accomplish the task entrusted to him by the Creator.

Noah will be released on March 28, 2014, and co-stars Jennifer Connelly as the ark-builder's wife Naameh. She once gain plays Russell Crowe's wife after appearing with him in A Beautiful Mind.

Douglas Booth and Logan Lerman play Noah's sons Shem and Ham and Emma Watson his adopted daughter Ila who is rescued and develops a relationship with Shem. Ray Winstone plays the villainous Tubal-Cain and Anthony Hopkins is Noah's grandfather Methuselah who in the Bible died seven days before the Great Flood.

www.badtaste.it/articoli/ecco-logan...arren-aronofsky
