Nuovo progetto per Michael Mann

Gold, as Spandau Ballet once sang, should make you feel that you believe in your soul that you’ve got the power to know you’re indestructible. Michael Mann will be hoping for a little of that spirit as he goes in search of the stuff. But he’s not donning a cowboy hat and digging out his gold pan, he’s instead considering making a treasure-hunting script named after the precious metal his next project.

Deadline reports that Paul Haggis showed Mann Gold, written by Patrick Masset and John Zinman, as a writing sample to help the pair score other gigs. But the director liked it so much he nabbed the rights and began developing it with his Forward Pass production company.

There are few details of the proposed film floating around for now, but apparently it’s a modern-day Treasure of the Sierra Madre-style tale of prospectors hunting for the good stuff. If Mann can wrangle up the cash to make it, he wants to kick off shooting later in the year with Haggis on board to co-produce.

But it’s not the only project hustling for the director’s attention – he’s got plenty of other possibilities lined up, including an adaptation of Sharpe creator Bernard Cornwell’s book Agincourt, true-life gangster tale Big Tuna, a biopic about war photographer Robert Capa and more.
